East Tennessee Snowmageddon

East Tennessee gets some snow but not like up North. But when it does it’s bad. We have a lot of hills, mountains and curves making it worse.

The storm started to move in Sunday night and then started to hit more throughout the day Monday, January 16, 2024. It kept snowing throughout the whole day and night, very heavy wet snow. That is why accumulated a lot.

Tuesday, we still had a lot and very cold temperatures. It snowed some more early Tuesday morning, but it was the fine snow and very little of it.

We measured the snow late Monday night, we almost has 8 inches of snow. They saying Jefferson City and Morristown town area got hit the worst. But from what I am seeing a lot of the areas around us got huge accumulations too.

My wife even made some snow cream with the snow. Our black cat, Joel the Brave loves to eat fresh snow. Our other two cats don’t want anything to do with it.

Sadly my driveway of my apartments has an incline. It is icy and most of us cannot get out. It didn’t help one of the neighbors thought pouring hot water down it would make it easier to get up and out. He just made it worse for him and all of the rest of us. It’s nothing but thick ice now. He came close to hitting several of the cars and is currently at an angle just feet from mine.

They are calling for more snow on Friday, if this snow lingers and the temperatures stay below 32° F, it will just add to it.

I did spend my Tuesday off of work and had a small shovel and worked on and off throughout the day to try to break up the ice on the parking lot for all of us.

I even tried to get my car out of its parking spot, it won’t budge from its spot, just slides down. Even other neighbors tried and cannot get out orbip the driveway.

We haven’t had a big accumulation of snow like this in a very long time. Most every place closed in my city due to the inclement weather. I think in 2015 we had a big icy storm.

Even had a white Christmas in 2020.

In January of 2022, we only had a dusting of snow yet someone clipped and took out the mailboxes.

Those are ca ouple of the ones I recall. So it shows how often we might get some bad winter weather.
